Mel Roy Art

I'm from a village in the North East of Scotland. Leaving there I moved to Glasgow to study Architecture at Glasgow School of Art, and after running my own business, I moved into working as a Figurative Artist in the last few years. In June 2015 I completed the Figurative Art Course at Leith School of Art, and won the Figurative Painting prize.I live and work in Edinburgh.

I mainly work from life but also sometimes from other references. These would usually be photographic, drawings, film or often collage, and these are a departure point rather than a definitive source. The figure in art has always been my driver, and I am interested in making works that move beyond direct representation and into another state. I aim to make pictures with emotion, without a clear narrative, where the figure although changed is less perfect, more real and although altered,
